How To Sell On Instagram Stories

If you’re a small business with under 10,000 followers you don’t yet have access to the swipe up feature on your Instagram stories. When you sell goods and want to link an item in your story so that customers can shop it, you have to rely solely on the single link you’re given in your IG profile. Don’t know about you, but I get so frustrated with this! That was, until a few weeks ago.

Instagram has finally released a new shopping feature on Instagram Stories! You can now add a shopping sticker to your story, just like how you can tag products for your followers to shop through your posts. And the best part, it’s available to everyone! As a small business you can drive sales directly from your IG Stories.

If you’re a business that has approved products (meaning you’ve set up your Facebook shop and linked it to your Instagram) you can add one product tag to each story image or video. You can choose the style of sticker - product name or shopping bag and even customize the font colour to match your branding.

When a customer hits the product sticker on your story, they’ll be taken to a product details page, just like when the customer taps on a product tag in your photos. From that product page they can access more products and item details. To purchase, the customer simply clicks a link that’ll take them directly to the product page on your website where they can purchase.

  1. You must have an Instagram Business profile. If you currently have your Instagram account listed as a personal profile, you’ll need to switch over.

  2. Your Instagram Business Profile must be connected to a Facebook store and that Facebook store must have physical products approved by Instagram. Not sure how to do that? Check out this Instagram article.

  3. Make sure your Instagram app is updated to the latest version in order to access shoppable stickers.

  4. Open your Instagram Stories and choose your video or photo.

  5. Swipe up to see a list of stickers you can add. Select the sticker labelled Product - it has a little shopping bag next to it.

  6. Your Facebook shop will open and you’ll see all of your products listed there. Choose the product you want to tag.

  7. The product name will show up on your story and you can select a colour below. To choose a custom colour, hold down on one of the colours and a gradient bar will appear. Drag to the colour of your choice and let go when you find the one you want. Then move the product tag to where you want it to appear on you story.

That’s it! Happy Instagram selling everyone!
